Christopher John Lane

Professor, Writer, Student of Christian Cultures

About

I serve as Professor of History at Christendom College in Front Royal, Va., where I teach a variety of courses in the history of Western Civilization from its foundations in Ancient Near Eastern antiquity through its global present. My work focuses on past and present Christian cultures, with particular attention to the challenges and opportunities embedded in modernity. My current research and writing explores relationships between Anglicanism and Catholicism, especially in light of the contributions of the Oxford Movement and the cultural shifts it engendered. Much of my earlier work, including my book Callings and Consequences, has examined historical cultures of vocation, analyzing young people's choices of states of life in the context of law, the family, social order, and broader movements of Christian reform.
